In our fast-paced world, finding moments of calm and peace can feel tricky as we dash from one thing to the next. However, amidst day to day pressures, there exists an ancient and powerful practice that offers healing and calm for both the mind and body. Meditation is open to everyone, can be practised just about anywhere, and is supported by an excellent body of evidence into its benefits for both the mind and body. We are learning more and more about the mind-body connection, and the influence stress can have upon us physically, as well as mentally.
There are many reasons why you should try meditation, the benefits are well researched and can change your life for the better. It is a skill which is open to everyone, and you don’t need any equipment to get started! There are many types of meditation, for example guided, sound and mantra- to name just a few. Guided meditation is a great way to get started, and ideal for beginners. There are many apps available online, or even better- you could find a teacher either online or face-to-face to support you whilst you are learning more of this ancient practice.
Getting started can be as simple as finding a comfortable spot, closing your eyes, focusing on your breath and allowing any thoughts to pass by without any judgement. It is completely normal for your mind to wander, so don’t be disheartened if you feel yourself becoming distracted at times. Allow any thoughts or feelings to just be. Over time and with practice, you will find it much easier to get into the meditative state and will find yourself meditating just about anywhere and reaping the many benefits!
